SUSTAINABILITY
NORDVLOOT is committed to sustainable maritime logistics — reducing our environmental footprint while delivering excellence across every trade route.
Shipping Responsibly
Maritime shipping carries 90% of world trade, and with that scale comes significant environmental responsibility. At NORDVLOOT, we believe that sustainable logistics and commercial success are not in conflict — they are inseparable from long-term viability.
Our 2024 Sustainability Report confirmed an 18% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions year-on-year. We are now working toward our 2030 target of 50% reduction across all scopes, including carrier Scope 3 emissions.

Our Commitments
Three Pillars of Sustainability
Environmental
Reducing maritime emissions through carrier selection based on Environmental Shipping Index (ESI) scores, optimised cargo routing to minimise empty legs, and full transition to renewable energy across all warehouse facilities by 2026.
Social
Fair wages, inclusive hiring across our 6 international offices, zero-tolerance modern slavery policies, and investment in the communities where our trade routes operate — from Rotterdam to Dar es Salaam and beyond.
Governance
ISO 9001:2015 certification, full GHG Protocol reporting, external ESG audit by Bureau Veritas, and board-level sustainability accountability with annual public reporting against all targets.
What We Promise
Modern Slavery Zero Tolerance
All supplier and agent contracts include binding Modern Slavery clauses. Annual audits on high-risk routes. Hotline available for workers to report concerns anonymously.
Low Carbon Carrier Programme
NORDVLOOT evaluates all carriers annually against the Environmental Shipping Index. Carriers scoring below our ESI minimum are removed from preferred routing. 80% ESI-compliant carriers targeted by 2027.
Renewable Rotterdam Warehouse
100% renewable electricity for our Rotterdam 12,000 m² bonded warehouse facility by end 2026. Electric forklift fleet conversion to be completed by Q2 2025.
Full Scope 3 Measurement
Completed our first full Scope 3 emissions measurement in 2024 covering carrier operations, agent activities, and client last-mile delivery. Setting reduction targets for 2025–2030 based on this baseline.
AI Container Safety Initiative
Our AI programme identifies misdeclared hazardous cargo before vessel loading, protecting crew safety, preventing environmental incidents, and improving regulatory compliance across our container network.
Community & Social Investment
NORDVLOOT invests 1% of annual profits in port community programmes in our African trade routes, supporting seafarer welfare organisations and local skills development in maritime logistics.
