NORDVLOOT Pilots AI-Powered Container Content Safety Programme

In a joint initiative with the Port of Rotterdam Authority and a leading AI research institute, NORDVLOOT has launched a pilot programme using artificial intelligence to analyse container manifest data and flag potentially misdeclared hazardous cargo before vessel loading.

The AI model, trained on 5 years of European customs seizure data, analyses commodity codes, shipper history, origin country, and declared weight anomalies to generate a risk score for each container. In the pilot's first quarter, the system identified 14 containers with undeclared hazardous materials — a 6x improvement over manual inspection rates. Full rollout is planned for Q1 2026.
